West Ham United 1-0 Nottingham Forest
Division One
17 August 1968

Ron Greenwood's West Ham United maintained their unbeaten start to the 1968/69 Division One campaign, with this 1-0 victory at home to Nottingham Forest.

Unusually, the Hammers had begun with successive away days, firstly holding Newcastle United to a 1-1 draw, before claiming a 2-0 victory against Stoke City in the Potteries.

The visit of Forest, therefore, marked their first contest of the season at the Boleyn Ground, with Geoff Hurst's solitary strike ensuring the spoils remained in east London. It proved the first of some 25 league goals for the No10 that season.

A second successive win propelled Greenwood's men into second in the top flight, for the time being at least, prior to a sobering 4-1 home reverse at the hands of Everton next time out.
