Classic match
West Ham United 3-0 Coventry City
Football League Championship
9 April 2005
The Hammers left it late to secure an important victory over Coventry City on this day in 2005.
A final scoreline of 3-0 may look comfortable, but it was still 0-0 as the game headed into the final 15 minutes with West Ham needing a win to keep their play-off bid on track.
However, Coventry crumbled in the closing stages as a three-goal Hammers burst was enough to claim the points.
An own goal from Coventry's Richard Shaw on 76 minutes got the hosts started, before a Teddy Sheringham penalty with a minute remaining and an injury time Bobby Zamora header sealed the victory.
The win was West Ham's third in a row, and eight points from their final five games was enough to secure a play-off spot, where the Hammers would go on to beat Ipswich Town and Preston North End to earn their place back in the Premier League.
