Porto to play Bilbao at Rush Green

Athletic Club Bilbao U21s will play FC Porto U21s in their Premier League International Cup Quarter Final tie at West Ham United’s Rush Green training ground.

The match between the two European heavyweights will take place on Wednesday 8 April 2015, kick off 7pm. Admission is FREE for everyone.

This is the second time Athletic Club Bilbao have travelled to east London, having beaten the West ham United Development Squad 5-3 in the group stage.

In a thrilling game, the Hammers got off to a slow start when Jorge Luis Garcia scored after just two minutes however, the Dev Squad drew level following good work from Matthias Fanimo whose cross was diverted in.

The Spanish outfit took the lead shortly after as Seguin’s corner free kick evaded everyone and crept in at the far corner. They extended their lead before the break as Iriondo’s shot took a big deflection.

The Hammers rallied in the second half with a goal from Elliot Lee who pounced on Josh Pask’s knock down. With ten minutes remaining, the Dev Squad went all out for an equaliser, sparking a frantic finish as three goals were scored in stoppage time.

Garcia scored his second of the evening before Kieran Bywater rifled in a shot from outside the area. With just seconds left, Bilbao attacked from the restart which ended with Barco heading their fifth goal.

Athletic Club Bilbao have a long tradition of using Basque-born players only which produced dividends as they won the UEFA Europa League and were Copa Del Rey runners’ up in 2011-12.

Some of Bilboa’s most notable players of recent times include Fernando Llorente, Javi Martinez and Iker Muniain.

FC Porto came second in Group A behind Chelsea having lost to the west London outfit 2-1 before beating Norwich City 2-1 and drawing 2-2 with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Whoever progresses to the semi-finals will face British opposition in the form of Chelsea, Fulham, Leicester City, Manchester City, Celtic or Everton.

The match will take place on Wednesday 8 April 2015, kick off is 7pm. Admission is FREE to all.
