This win on the final day of the 2011/12 season wasn't enough to secure an automatic promotion spot as the Hammers had to settle for a Play-Off place.

Carlton Cole nodded home the first after 35 minutes and doubled the lead moments after half-time when he lobbed the advancing Vito Mannone in goal.

Corry Evans scored a consolation after a poor header by Guy Demel let him in but West Ham held on for the win.

Sam Allardyce's team defeated Cardiff over two legs and then beat Blackpool in the Play-Off final at Wembley to secure a swift return to the Premier League.

West Ham made it five wins from seven away matches when they beat Hull on their own patch to keep pace at the top of the Championship.

After a goalless first-half Sam Allardyce introduced Carlton Cole for John Carew and soon after Sam Baldock profited from a Cole knockdown to open the scoring.

Cole then slid through the pass which Jack Collison latched onto and placed beyond Peter Gulacsi to seal the three points.

West Ham climbed to 13th in the table after this win over relegation threatened Hull City.

Gianfraco Zola's side got off to a flyer when Valon Behrami put them ahead in the third minute.

Carlton Cole added a second before Julien Faubert rounded things off with a spectacular 25-yard strike.

The Hammers would go on to finish just five points and two places above relegated Hull.

The Hammers extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a convincing home win over the Tigers.

Hull had lost six straight games coming into this match and could have been on the end of a more emphatic defeat at the Boleyn Ground with the Hammers having struck the woodwork four times.

Mark Noble missed a penalty before David Di Michele put the home side in front just before half-time.

Carlton Cole turned in a second five minutes after the interval to score his fifth goal in as many matches as the Hammers sauntered to victory.
