U18s lose in seven goal thriller

West Ham United U18s fell to a 4-3 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hammers started the game brightly and they almost opened the scoring when Djair Parfitt-Williams went close before goalkeeper Harry Voss denied Jerry Amoo.

West Ham continued to press for an opener as Parfitt-Williams had another chance before Reece Burke saw his header go over the bar. However, the score remained 0-0 at half time.

The hosts came out the traps quickly as they opened the scoring through Joe Pritchard's finish in the first minute of the second half.

They doubled their lead soon after through Anton Walkes' as he cut in from the left-wing to finish from a tight angle.

The Hammers responded well through Oscar Borg's superb curling free kick two minutes later but poor defending cost the Hammers as Ismail Azzaoui ran onto Anthony Georgio's slick through-ball to restore their two goal advantage.

The hosts proceeded to wrap up the victory ten minutes from time when scorer Azzaoui returned the favour by setting up Georgiou for their fourth goal of the afternoon.

However, the Hammers almost mustered an unlikely comeback as Jerry Amoo headed home from a corner before Oscar Borg replicated his earlier attempt with another exquisite free kick. Unfortunately for the Hammers it was too little too late as the hosts held out for the all-important three points.

The U18s' next game is against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday 29 November at Rush Green. Kick-off is at 12pm.
