Jenkinson up for Goodison battle

Carl Jenkinson is relishing the test of a trip to Everton on Saturday following a productive international break with the England U21 squad.

The on-loan Arsenal man scored in the Young Lions' 3-1 win over Portgual at Burnley, before coming on as a substitute as Gareth Southgate's men were edged out 3-2 by France.

Now, with a date at Goodison Park on the agenda, Jenkinson is determined to nullify the threat of Leighton Baines and Ross Barkley down the Toffees' left and help West Ham to another positive result.

"They [Barkley and Baines] are good players but so are we and it will be a good battle - we're looking forward to it.

"We're flying at the minute and Everton is a tough place to go to, but fingers crossed we get a good result."

Jenkinson's goal during the international break - his second for the U21s - helped England defeat one of their group stage opponents in next summer's European Championship and he believes a successful tournament could lie ahead.

Weve got Portugal in the European Championship in the summer - they're a good side so it gives us a nice psychological edge to have beaten them. We played really well.

"It was good to get some minutes during the international break and really nice to get on the scoresheet.

"That is somnething I'm trying to add to my game and it's always good to get a goal because full backs don't score many!

"We more than deserved to beat Portugal so it's good to go into the tournament in the summer knowing we can beat them.

"I just need minutes at the moment and I'm not far away from full fitness now. Minutes are all I want and I got one-and-a-half games with England so that can only stand me in good stead."
