Howes set for Euro final

West Ham United youngster Sam Howes is in contention for England as they do battle with Netherlands in the UEFA Under-17 European Championship final on Wednesday evening.

The Young Hammer of the Year watched on as his Young Lions team-mates secured their place in the final with a 2-0 win against Portugal on Sunday, earning them a date with the Dutch at Malta's Ta'Qali National Stadium.

It will be the second time England have faced Netherlands in the competition after going down to a 2-0 defeat in the group stages - Howes' only appearance in the tournament thus far.

Howes replaced Newcastle United's Freddie Woodman between the sticks for the group stage clash, but was not able to help England build on victories against hosts Malta and Turkey.

John Peacock's team succumbed to second-half goals from Calvin Verdonk and Dani van der Moot earlier in the tournament, but will hope to gain revenge when the two sides meet in the tournament's showpiece finale.

Hammers fans can tune into Eurosport for the 6pm kick-off on Wednesday evening to support the Young Lions in their bid for silverware.
