99-year-old fan makes emotional return

One of West Ham United's oldest supporters, 99-year-old George Emmerson, made an emotional return to the Boleyn Ground last season.

The veteran Hammers fan returned to watch his team in action for the first time in over a decade and was thrilled by the experience.

Having first watched the Club in 1925, Emmerson has experienced plenty of highs and lows during his support, but he would not have it any other way as a Hammer.

"I first started watching West Ham in 1925," George recalled. "We used to sit on a low wall and our feet weren't allowed to go over on the pitchside, so we had to have our back to the football and look over our shoulders!

"I remember an early game against West Bromwich and them scoring five and West Ham one - the same striker scored all of their goals.

"But I remember all the great games at West Ham as well. There was one at Portsmouth too when we went down in a van for two shillings! We got there just before the game started and I got carried over everyone's shoulders to the front of the crowd. They were great days.

"It was wonderful to come back, when I think of what it used to be like, to come into a hotel in the ground is absolutely marvellous.

"Ten years ago I came down to say goodbye to the ground and I never thought I'd see it again. I got let in, and was shown all round the ground. they let me walk down the tunnel to the pitch and it was an absolute thrill for me. I've never forgotten that.

"I've got great memories of West Ham."
