West Ham United 2-1 West Bromwich Albion
FA Cup third round replay
8 January 1980

Three days after playing out a 1-1 draw with the same opposition at the Hawthorns, West Ham secured their progress in the FA Cup with victory over West Bromwich Albion at the Boleyn Ground.

The home side earned the tag of 'Giant killers' as goals from Geoff Pike and Trevor Brooking knocked their First Division opponents out of the completion.

The Hammers, who were in the Second Division at the time, would go onto surprise everyone in the county as they beat Leyton Orient, Swansea City, Aston Villa and Everton after a replay to reach the FA Cup final.

Arsenal stood between the east Londoners and the famous cup but they weren't to be denied as Brooking stooped low to head home the only goal of the game and win, what remains, the Hammers' last FA Cup.
