Classic match

West Ham United 8-2 Leeds United
Division One
9 February 1929

There were goals galore at the Boleyn Ground on this day 85 years ago as the Hammers ran riot against Leeds United.

The visitors from Yorkshire netted twice themselves, but it was to no avail as West Ham smashed eight past their beleaguered goalkeeper.

Vic Watson's personal tally ran to six, while Tommy Yews and Vivian Gibbins also got in on the act.

The win lifted the Hammers to 16th in the Division One table, and they would go on to finish one place lower in 17th.
