Goals from Frank McAvennie and Tony Cottee moved the Hammers up to eleventh place in the league, a position they would never fall below for the rest of the season.

John Lyall's side kept climbing the league table, eventually finishing in third place only four point off champions Liverpool - the Hammers' best ever league finish.
