Introduction

• West Ham United host Wigan Athletic at the Boleyn Ground in the Capital One Cup third round still unbeaten at home in all competitions following Kevin Nolan's late equaliser in Saturday's 1-1 Barclays Premier League draw with Sunderland.

• Mohamed Diame could face his old club if selected and he will be hoping to emulate Hugo Rodallega, who scored against Wigan on Saturday for Fulham after also leaving the DW Stadium during the summer.

• Yossi Benayoun and Matt Jarvis both made their home debuts against Sunderland on Saturday but neither has yet to start a game at home. However, Benayoun is unavailable as he has been allowed to miss the match due it falling on the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.

• This is the first-ever meeting in the League Cup between the two sides and the 19th between them in all competitions.

• Fourteen goals have been scored in the previous three matches between the sides.

• West Ham United have twice reached the League Cup final, losing to West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool in 1966 and 1981 respectively. Wigan Athletic reached the final in 2006, losing 4-0 to Manchester United.

• West Ham United's clash with Wigan Athletic is one of five all Barclays Premier League ties in the Capital One Cup third round draw, the others being: Manchester City v Aston Villa, Manchester United v Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers v Reading and West Bromwich Albion v Liverpool.

• The Capital One Cup fourth-round draw will take place live on Sky Sports following Wednesday's televised clash between Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Previous meeting

• West Ham United's last meeting with Wigan Athletic ended in despair as the Latics fought back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and condemn the Hammers to relegation on 15 May 2011. Demba Ba scored a double but when Charles 'Zogbia and Conor Sammon scored within ten second-half minutes, the Hammers were seemingly on their way down. With 94 minutes on the clock 'Zogbia scored his second to preserve Wigan's Barclays Premier League status and send the Hammers into the Championship. • West Ham United have faced Wigan Athletic just 18 times and they hold the edge, winning ten of the encounters. Wigan have won six with two ending in draws.

• West Ham United's biggest win over Wigan came in the 2003/04 season, Kevin Horlock opened the scoring after four minutes and an own goal from Jason Jarrett made it 2-0 before half-time. Marlon Harewood added a brace in the second half, scoring his second from the spot, to give the Hammers a 4-0 Division One win at the Boleyn Ground on 29 November 2003.

• Wigan's biggest win in the fixture also came at the Boleyn Ground during the following season as the Latics secured a 3-1 Championship win on 15 August 2004. • Jack Collison will not play after missing the start of the season as he continues to manage his long-term knee issues.

• Andy Carroll will also be missing after suffering a hamstring injury on his debut that is likely to keep him sidelined for around six weeks.

• Israel captain Yossi Benayoun is unavailable after being granted leave by the club to mark the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur.

• Winger Matt Jarvis is pushing for a starting place after making two substitute appearances against Norwich City and Sunderland.

• Rob Hall, George Moncur and Matthias Fanimo all featured in the previous round against Crewe Alexandra and could again feature, as could Development Squad team-mates Raphael Spiegel, Callum Driver and Paul McCallum.
