West Ham won through to the third round thanks to a 2-0 win against Crewe Alexandra at the end of August, where goals Modibo Maiga and Nicky Maynard secured their safe passage through. The 7.45pm kick-off will see the Hammers continue their quest to reach their third League Cup final, having previously done so in 1966 and 1981, when they were defeated by West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool respectively.
Manager Sam Allardyce is expecting an entertaining game. "There are players that are frustrated on our substitutes' bench. Obviously, Modibo Maiga will come into the fray," Allardyce said. "He's come on as sub again and is still feeling his way in. Wigan's going to be a great game and there's not too much pressure on both teams, because it's the Capital One Cup."
