A promising 6'3 tall goalkeeper, Raphael Spiegel joined West Ham United on a three-year contract on 23 July 2012.

The Switzerland age-group international served his apprenticeship with FC Grasshopper Club Zurich before being loaned out to lower-league clubs FC Wil 1900 and SC Bruhl SG.

Spiegel's talent was rewarded with a place in the Switzerland squad for the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which his nation won for the first time in their history.

2012/13

Joined West Ham United on a three-year contract on 23 July 2012...Made his Development Squad debut in a 3-0 pre-season defeat at Dartford on 24 July 2012.

International career

Has represented Switzerland at U17, U18, U19 and U20 level and is regarded as one of his country's outstanding prospects...Travelled to the FIFA U-17 World Cup finals in Nigeria in 2009, where Switzerland won the title for the first time in their history, but was an unused substitute throughout the tournament.

Before West Ham United

Played a combined 41 games for Grasshopper Club's second team in the 1.Liga - the third tier of Swiss football during the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons...Appeared 17 times for SC Bruhl SG in the Swiss Challenge League - the second highest tier in his homeland - in 2011/12.
