October was a mixed month for West Ham United, who picked up two wins from four games.
The month began in perfect circumstances as first-half goals from Matt Jarvis and Vaz Te edged the Hammers past Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road. Their return to the Boleyn Ground five days later could have also ended positively, but despite a good performance, Arsenal rallied late on to earn a 3-1 win.
Following the international break the Hammers once again played host at the Boleyn Ground, this time to face Southampton, who took four points off the club last season. After a lackluster first-half, the second period began in explosive fashion as Noble and Nolan both scored within three minutes of the restart.
Noble grabbed his second after 72 minutes before Modibo Maiga scored his first-ever Barclays Premier League goal with a fine solo effort three minutes from time. October ended in disappointment as West Ham United succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.
