Barking Hammers on West Ham TV

West Ham United's latest star signing has four legs, a tail, stands around two-and-a-half feet tall and does not turn two until the summer.

Bush Standard is a pedigree Irish greyhound who first-team coach Wally Downes and his fellow members of the newly-formed COYI syndicate will prove to be a real winner.

Downes has joined forces with captain Kevin Nolan, Joey O'Brien, George McCartney and Mark Noble to buy, train and care for the 20-month-old dog and West Ham TV grabbed an exclusive chat with the proud new owners.

"He is a dog I have just brought over from Ireland. The boys had shown an interest in getting one because I've got a few so I spoke to some of my connections over there. We've waited a while and this is what we've got. Bush Standard is his name and our syndicate name, because we have got five or more owners, is COYI.

"Joey, Kevin, Mark and George have got involved. I have got three or four dogs in training at the moment and they asked me how it was going, so I said 'Why don't we get one and create a bit of interest among the lads?'.

"They have clubbed together and we found this dog. He's only been over in England a week and he's been up to the gallops once.

"He will have to have three trials and it'll take him four or five weeks to settle in at his new kennels. I should hope he will be running somewhere in six or seven weeks."
