James Tomkins and Mohamed Diame were both winners on a great day for West Ham United's Olympic stars on Sunday.
Tomkins started in the heart of Stuart Pearce's defence as Team GB beat UAE 3-1 in front of a sell-out Wembley crowd. The defender was recalled to the side after missing the draw with Senegal as goals from Ryan Giggs, Scott Sinclair and Daniel Sturridge secured Team GB's first win for more than 40 years
Momo Diame had captained Senegal to a fantastic win against highly-rated Uruguay earlier on at Wembley. Senegal were reduced to ten men when Abdoulaye Ba was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Luis Saurez. That made little difference though as two goals from Moussa Konate finished off the South Americans to set up a dramatic climax to Group A.
Tomkins and Team GB need just a draw in their final game against Uruguay in Cardiff to confirm their qualification from the group, as do Senegal when they face UAE in Coventy. Both games will kick off at 7.45pm on Wednesday.
