Hammers in the Community

The West Ham United Community Sports Trust will be out and about at the Newham and Barking and Dagenham Town Shows this weekend.

First up, on Saturday 21 July,  the Trust will be part of a variety of games and Olympic-themed sports at the Mayor's Newham Show in Central Park, East Ham.

There, Trust staff will also introduce visitors to a healthy living initiative, giving them the chance to have free health MOTs and receive advice on how to achieve a healthy body, heart and mind.

There will also be a chance for youngsters aged 5-16 to hone their football and mini-tennis skills and techniques with community coaches during fun taster sessions.

The Mayor's Newham Show will run from 9.30am-6pm and will also feature BBC Blue Peter's Big Olympic Tour programme and entertainment from the best of Newham's talent.

The following day, Sunday 22 July, the Trust will be present at at the Barking and Dagenham Town Show, which be held in Central Park, Dagenham.

Coaches from the Trust's very successful trainee and mentoring scheme will be at the event, where up-and-coming coaches of the future will be hosting a number of multi-sports sessions, including handball, football and a range of other Olympic sports.

The Olympic Torch Relay will be visiting the Show on its way to the London 2012 Olympic Stadium in Stratford, with West Ham first-year professional Kenzer Lee among those carrying the flame through Dagenham Heathway on Sunday.

Sunday's show will be closed by popular singer Lemar, while a host of other musical and entertainment acts will take to the stage throughout the day between 11am and 7.30pm.
