Captain's Blog

Good morning everyone,

I want to start by saying what a fantastic derby win it was against Millwall.

What a great result it was for us, further cementing our place at the top of the league. It was not only down to the lads but also to all of you for playing your part in making sure it all went off smoothly and your backing, which was top class as always.

I was absolutely gutted to be sent-off - I understand why the decision was made to send me off, but I was still distraught. I am sure you will agree that the focus should be on the lads who did a fantastic job, I thought we bossed it and deserved the points in what was a typical battling London derby.

I have to sit out the next three games but will be backing the lads, who I know will be giving 100 per cent. I can't wait until I can play again. Until then, I will be supporting the lads as they look to achieve more good results in the next three games.

It was a shame our match at Peterborough United was called off, but I heard that both sets of fans were among the volunteers who were helping to get the snow off the pitch. It is great to see fans from opposing sides getting together like that.

We now turn our focus to Tuesday and Southampton. There are no easy games but we want to keep our place at the top. The lads have worked hard on the training pitches this weeked again and will be doing their upmost to get the right result.

Tuesday's game will help to raise the profile one of our club charities, the Richard House Children's Hospice in Beckton. A number of the lads visited Richard House just before Christmas and I know they were all impressed and moved by the amazing work done there.

They will be collecting donations at the stadium on matchday and please help them in any way that you can. It is a great cause and one close to everyone's hearts here at West Ham United. One way to donate a fiver is to text RHCH02 £5 to 70070.

As captain of our fantastic club, I can assure you that we will keep doing our best and the only way we can reward your support is by getting the results that will take us closer to getting promoted. As I have said before, your support deserves that.

Come on you Irons!
