Sam Allardyce has stressed the need for his West Ham side to continue their recent goalscoring form if they are to maintain their push for automatic promotion.
Big Sam's men put six past Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, meaning that in their last four games the Hammers have scored 15 goals. It is this return to form in front of goal which still gives hope to West Ham's bid for automatic promotion, but But Big Sam knows that they must win all three of their remaining games - starting with Bristol City on Tuesday eveing.
The Hammers travel to Bristol coming off the back of a great win on Saturday at home to Brighton. The team must have gained great confidence from such a fantastic win?
SA: Yes, they will have gained fantastic confidence, I think that we have to keep totally focussed on the fact that we need to repeat that performance again against Bristol City. I think that Bristol will be looking for the win to make absolutely sure they are safe from the drop so there should be a great atmosphere at the game.
Hopefully we can keep up this clinical finishing that we are showing at the moment that a few weeks ago seemed to have deserted us. Goals are flooding through the team and that's what takes the pressure off the defensive side of the team. The defending becomes that much easier if the strikers are performing well. Let's make sure we get the three points we are going for.
West Ham broke the club record for away wins in their last game away to Barnsley. It is important to keep that run going isn't it?
SA: It's nice to have broken the record but the bottom line is the three points are needed to stay in the automatic promotion race. We want to be in that race until the very end of the season and continue to assert pressure on Southampton. We need to be in a position to take advantage of any slip up from Southampton so we need to continue winning.
We are in good form at the moment irrespective of the Birmingham result in which we still gave a very good overall performance marred by defensive errors in the first half. Like I said we are in good form as of late so let's take that forward into Tuesday's game.
The clean sheet on Saturday was as important as the six goals wasn't it?
SA: It was, yes. It's very rare that we don't score at home and the last time we got a clean sheet was at Crystal Palace and we didn't manage to score in the game. For a long time we have been trying so hard in our efforts to win home games that for some reason we have not managed to put the right performance together over the 90 minutes.
We eased the pressure on ourselves with that fantastic performance and great victory on Saturday. Now we want to continue our fantastic season-long away form and get the three points.
Is there any team news ahead of Tuesday evening's game?
SA: George McCartney is still out with concussion. Julien Faubert is back in the squad so he could feature on Tuesday. We have a bit of a problem with Gary O'Neil who came off with a groin problem on Saturday so he might not make it. Carlton Cole has a slight knee problem and he might not recover quickly enough.
There will be one or two changes for Tuesday but hopefully not too many.
There is still everything to play for on Tuesday isn't there?
SA: Yes and now is the time where we don't want to let ourselves down. With three games to go and nine precious points up for grabs I'm convinced if we win all three we will have enough to take us up.
Whether it is or it isn't we will have to wait and see at the end of the season. At the moment it is one big game after another and Tuesday is no different so let's hope we can deliver the same kind of performance away from home as we have been doing all season.
