West Ham United Ladies manager Julia Setford is feeling in positive mood after her team produced an outstanding performance in securing a 3-0 home win over Tottenham Hotspur.
The victory maintained the Ladies' challenge for the FA Tesco Women's Premier League South title with a well-deserved win at Thurrock FC. It came courtesy of Carly Roache and a Gemma Shepherd double.
Roache's volley and Shepherd's speculative put the Hammers in first-half control before the latter converted a penalty early in the second half. Speaking ahead of Sunday's meeting with Millwall, Setford was in upbeat mood.
"It was a fantastic performance against Spurs. We all knew the jobs we had to do to get a great win on our home ground.
"We wouldn't have settled for anything less than three points and the girls did a great job in getting them - they were disciplined, the work-rate across the park was fantastic and there was some good combination play. I was really pleased.
"The early goal gave us a lift and boosted the confidence and we continued putting the pressure on and we didn't let them rest."
The Hammers had drawn 2-2 at newly-promoted Tottenham in their opening league game back in August, so Setford was naturally delighted to go one better this time around and secure three vital points.
"If you can nick a point away from home and win your home games, then you've got to be happy with that, but I was happier to beat them at home.
"After losing to Colchester United 2-1 in our previous match, which was a little bit disappointing, I was expecting a reaction from the girls and I got it.
"As long as we can build on that result, I'll be happy. We played Tottenham in our first game of the season and didn't play to our best or really gel and that was disappointing.
"I expected us to beat them because they'd just come up, but we did that second time around. We worked hard and we beat them."
