Kovac departs

West Ham United can confirm Radoslav Kovac has joined Swiss Super League champions FC Basel for an undisclosed fee.

The former Czech Republic defensive midfielder, who had only 12 months left on his contract in east London, signed a two-year deal with Basel on Friday.

The 31-year-old initially joined the Hammers on loan from Russian club Spartak Moscow in January 2009.

Having made the move permanent in August of the same year, the 31-year-old went on to make a total of 62 league and cup appearances in claret and blue, scoring three times.

Kovac could face the Hammers when Sam Allardyce's side take on FC Basel in the pre-season Uhren Cup competition in Grenchen, Switzerland on Wednesday 13 July.
West Ham United would like to thank Radoslav for his efforts and wish him every success in the future.
