Avram Grant said his players would keep their focus this week before the trip to Stoke City and take the positives from their latest display.
Although coming up short with a 3-1 defeat by the champions, the manager saw plenty of reasons for optimism - including his three league debutants in Lars Jacobsen, Tal Ben Haim and Victor Obinna. Added to that was a first run-out of the season for Valon Behrami and there is also hope that Thomas Hitzlsperger and Benni McCarthy will soon be able to make telling contributions.
McCarthy, in particular, has lost eight kilos in weight and, with three games coming up in a week starting with Stoke this Saturday, has been "doing well" to get back in contention. Grant added: "I can tell you he's a very nice guy. I don't know why he was like this. But he's lost eight kilos and is a very good player and I'm sure he will help us - and that's what's important.
"If I look at the past about many things I will be like many people here at the club who always say 'last year was not this, not that'... I say to everybody 'I don't care what happened. I'm looking forward', and so is Benni McCarthy."
The manager, who left Pablo Barrera on the bench because he only had one day's training after two games with Mexico, also maintained his full support for Robert Green, emphasising that "you can imagine his mood" after the No1 was involved in a freak second goal for Chelsea. "Sometimes things don't go how you want and you need to react well. Rob is a strong character and a good goalkeeper."
Green has had the backing of the Hammers faithful at home and away this season, and the manager added that the fans had a constant positive this campaign. "The West Ham supporters were great again. They were happy and they cheered us."
The manager said his team would do their best to turn the corner for the supporters, starting with Stoke next weekend when he said his team would be "100 per cent prepared" to get the job done.
"Even if we had taken three points or against Bolton in our last home game, the challenge would be the same. Nothing changes and I am positive that we will do what we need to do."
