Lletget off the mark

Southampton Under-18s 3-2 West Ham United Under-18s

Sebastian Lletget scored his first goal in West Ham United colours on Saturday but it was not enough to stop the Hammers going down to a 3-2 defeat.

The American youngster scored with a well-taken finish in the dying moments of the Premier Academy League encounter at Staplewood but by then the Hammers were 3-1 down. In fact, the Saints had raced into a three-goal lead inside the opening half-hour before Dylan Tombides pulled one back from close range just before the interval.

Tony Carr made three changes in the second half, notably bringing on US youngster Lletget but was unable to affect a turnaround. The Hammers return to action next Saturday at home to Ipswich Town at Little Heath and will hope for better.

* Under-16 central defender Leo Chambers has been called into the England squad for the Victory Shield encounter away to Wales on Friday 15 October. The Young Lions have been the champions of the home-nation tournament for the previous nine years, with Robert Hall having been part of the triumph two years' ago before Matthias Fanimo and Blair Turgott were involved in last year's success.
