Disappointment for Holmar

Holmar Orn Eyjolfsson was unable to prevent KSV Roeselare from being relegated to the Belgian League Second Division.

The Flanders-based club, where Eyjolfsson has been on loan since January, were demoted following a 4-1 promotion/relegation play-off defeat at KVSK United Overpelt-Lommel on Sunday.

Dennis van Wijk's side needed to win to maintain their hopes of staving off the drop following a five-year stay in the top-flight, but were unable to secure the three points they needed.

The result left Roeselare, who finished 15th and bottom of the First Division table, unable to catch play-off division leaders KAS Eupen.

Eupen, who finished fourth in the Second Division, have been promoted to the top-flight with a match to spare following a 2-1 home victory over RAEC Mons.

Sunday's results left Eupen on 12 points from five matches played, with Lommel on six and both Mons and Roeselare on five.

Despite the disappointment of relegation, the Iceland Under-21 defender will hope to end his five-and-a-half month stay in Belgium on a high note when Roeselare entertain promoted Eupen on Thursday evening.

Eyjolfsson, who turns 20 in August, has made 16 appearances for Roeselare and has impressed the club's management and supporters with his strong defending and mature and composed approach to the game.
