Hammers heroes of yesteryear are preparing to do battle in the claret and blue once again with a competitive football tournament being staged on Saturday 4 September at the Boleyn Ground.
Football40 is launching its 20-minute each way, eleven-a-side format with the first London Legends Cup, when the names from the recent past regain their competitive edge, and fight for the honour of being the winners of a masters competition.
Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur will provide the first classic semi-final followed by West Ham United v Chelsea. Then watch the winners of these two semi-finals battle it out to win the cup.
The teams will aim to revive past glories, as the fans relive wonderful memories. This is not simply going to be a nostalgia trip though, the players want to dispel the image of the old boys playing for fun or for charity - they all mean business as they aim to win the trophy.
Football40 enables the legends to play at full throttle for 20 minutes each way, aided by roll on and roll off substitutes, to throw back the years and play as they did in their prime.
One of the club's 1980 FA Cup heroes Ray Stewart, also a stalwart of the great 1985/86 side, will be part of the Hammers team who will be taking on the likes of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, Gary Mabbutt, Ray Parlour, Tore Andre Flo, Clive Allen and Paul Merson.
For many of the younger generation, it will be the first chance to see the players who made history for their clubs in action. For all it will be a unique opportunity to see these players performing once again with silverware at stake.
