Jonathan Spector and Valon Behrami will complete their 2010 FIFA World Cup preparations with high-profile warm-up matches on Saturday.
Spector's United States take on Australia at the Roodeport Stadium in Johannesburg in a match that could see the West Ham United player cement his place at right-back in Bob Bradley's side.
The 24-year-old faces competition from Hannover 96 defender Steve Cherundolo for the starting berth ahead of the American's Group C opener against England in Rustenburg a week today.
Whether he is picked or not, Spector insisted the team spirit within the US camp would stand them in good stead for the challenges that lie ahead.
"We are a tight group. I think that's one of our strengths," he said. "We're tight-knit and when we come back together for training, we pick up right where we left off. We may be playing against better players individually. But I think the U.S has been better as a team.
"Typically, it's the better team that wins, not the team with one individual superstar."
Elsewhere, Behrami will be back in action as Switzerland complete their preparations by taking on 2006 winners Italy in Geneva. The Hammers midfielder will return to the left wing after missing the midweek friendly defeat by Costa Rica with a minor ankle injury.
Switzerland open their World Cup challenge with a Group H meeting with European champions Spain in Durban on 16 June, with No11 Behrami considered a certain starter.
Manager Ottmar Hitzfeld said: "A win against the world champions would not be bad. To beat such an opponent would give us a lot of confidence."
In South Africa, Matthew Upson was ruled out of training with England in Royal Bafokeng on Saturday with a temperature, but any virus is not thought to be serious and the defender could return to training on Sunday morning.
