James Tomkins has enjoyed a successful return to the West Ham United starting XI in recent weeks, but he is determined not to rest on his laurels as he seeks to help repay the man who has given him "massive confidence."
Tomkins told WHUTV that manager Gianfranco Zola has had a major impact on his return to form through belief and specialist one-on-one training sessions. The England Under-21 international was forced off with a facial injury during Tuesday's game with Portsmouth, but should he be fit for Saturday's visit of Blackburn Rovers. He is focused on helping the Hammers' push for a third clean sheet in five Barclays Premier League matches.
"The manager has had the confidence to play me and that brings a massive confidence to me and the other younger boys who have had their chance. If the youngsters do well, then they will get their chance to impress him," Tomkins told WHUTV.
"He's good for youngsters and will always take them aside to give them a bit of advice on where they can improve and do a bit with them after training if they want and he has been brilliant for me.
"When the manager puts faith in you and trusts you it is always nice to repay him with performances, which I try to do."
