Good day for Matt and Jack

Matthew Upson and Jack Collison met supporters young and old at a special signing session held at West Ham United's club store at the Lakeside Shopping Centre.

The popular pair signed autographs and posed for pictures as well as chatting with the fans that had waited patiently to see them for the special half-term session at the Essex-based shop.

From shirts and footballs to books and photos, the players happily signed away and were especially delighted with the 'good luck' messages given to them ahead of this Saturday's home match against Hull City.

They were just the latest first-team players to be in store, with new recruits Benni McCarthy and Mido poised to head to the Stadium store this Thursday afternoon to meet the fans for the first time since arriving. Captain Upson summed up why the players value such experiences as it allows them the chance to give something back and hear the views of fans at first hand.

He said: "It was great to meet with supporters. It is nice to swap a few words with them, about games or whatever and everyone was in positive spirits. It is a good time to do it as the younger supporters are enjoying their half-term holidays from school.

"It was a boost also to get the messages for the weekend. It is much appreciated by all of us and we will certainly be doing our best on Saturday to get a win against Hull."

This sentiment was echoed by Collison, who added: "It is good to meet our supporters like this, everyone was saying good things about the team and it is nice to hear that.

"Our supporters have been backing us all season no matter what the results, so to meet with many of them like this and sign autographs for them is a small thing we can do. We are looking to build on last week's win this weekend."
