Alex Dyer has been speaking about his determination to help more of West Ham United's talented youngsters achieve their goals in 2011.
The reserve-team manager has watched as Ruud Boffin, Junior Stanislas, Freddie Sears and Frank Nouble have become integral to the first-team squad in recent weeks, while the likes of left-back Jordan Brown and midfielder Ahmed Abdulla have been training with the senior set-up as well.
Loanee Matthew Fry continues to go from strength to strength at left-back for League One high-fliers Charlton Athletic while right-back Jordan Spence, midfielders George Moncur and Olly Lee plus attack-minded duo Cristian Montano and Anthony Edgar are all pushing hard.
While Dyer naturally has hopes of progress in the Barclays Premier Reserve League, with some mouth-watering matches coming up, he said his job was to develop players that could make a difference for Avram Grant. This could be heightened with the FA Cup third-round date with Barnsley on Saturday week, when one or two untried players may be included.
"I want us to go and do the best we can because the better we do as a group, the better they are doing as individuals," he said. That's what I am hoping."
"I want to finish high in the league. We're in a good position and if we win our couple of games in hand we could be second from top of the reserve league. That's what I want. I don't want people to say it's just the reserve league and doesn't mean anything. I want it to mean something."
Dyer is one of the most popular faces at Chadwell Heath and relishes every minute of his job.
"It's been good. I've enjoyed every moment of it to be fair. For me, I just carry on trying to do my job. Obviously I have ambitions as well and want to keep learning, so every manager who has come through the door I want to keep learning from them.
"I work with a good bunch. The staff are good. I've got Kevin Keen who has been here longer than me and if I need help I can go to him because he's a great coach and a great person. If I need help from him I can go there and get some advice."
