Get fit for the New Year

West Ham United Community Sports Trust are pleased to invite supporters and Newham residents to take part in one of their new Men's Health Programmes starting this month.

The scheme, in partnership with Newham Hearty Lives, and Littlewood's Premier Health, is designed to help those who have resolved to lose weight and get fit in 2011.

The Community Sports Trust are targeting those who want to take action but do not know how to go about it. With the Olympic Games coming to east London next year, there will be an increasing sporting focus across the Borough among all.

Without the right support and encouragement making lifestyle changes can quickly feel like a losing battle. The Trust's team of health professionals will help fans to set realistic, achievable goals which will give them the confidence to make their resolutions stick.

During the free eight-week programme, qualified health trainer coaches will guide fans through a range of physical activities which improve not only basic well being, but also the overall knowledge of diet, nutrition, and fitness. This equips people to make better choices both in the short and long term, as well as providing appropriate levels of support and advice to get started.

To be eligible for the January programmes, applicants must be a male Newham resident aged between 18-45 and engaged in less than half an hour of physical activity per week.

Academy Director Tony Carr has shown his support for the scheme and recognises the importance of keeping fit and healthy.

Carr said: "There should be no barriers to living a healthy, active life. Three years ago I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and have had to learn to live with the condition. Taking the first step to living a healthier lifestyle is easier than you think."

The new courses will run every Monday, Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings starting from the week commencing Monday 10 January 2011.
