Matthew Upson and Carlton Cole have been named in Fabio Capello's squad for England's two UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Switzerland.
Capello, who was at Old Trafford for Saturday's match at Manchester United, has named a 24-man party in total, with Upson returning to the fold after missing the friendly against Hungary earlier this month. Cole was an unused substitute for that match but both will hope to figure at Wembley on Friday night against Bulgaria - the Group G opener on the road to Poland and Ukraine in two summers' time. The Three Lions then travel to Basel to take on the Swiss on Tuesday week.
Robert Green was unavailable for selection because of a minor procedure this week, although he should return to face Chelsea on Saturday 11 September. Upson's chances could be boosted by John Terry and Rio Ferdinand's injury absence, meaning he is the most senior central defender in the squad with 21 caps and two goals. Cole has seven appearances to date. Wales and Montenegro are the other sides in Group G, with only the winners certain of qualifying automatically for the finals.
