U18s head for Spurs

West Ham United's Under-18s will be eager to bounce back to winning ways when they head for Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday morning.

The Hammers will be keen to make amends for the 1-0 FA Premier Academy League defeat they suffered at home to Stoke City a week ago, having begun the 2009/10 campaign with an impressive 2-1 victory at Everton on 22 August.

Tony Carr's youngsters will also want to gain revenge for the 3-2 loss they suffered at Spurs Lodge in a pre-season friendly with Saturday's opponents on 25 July.

West Ham's goalscorers that day, Danny Purdy and Blair Turgot, will not feature this time around. Purdy has been away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland U17 side in Poland, while Turgot is likely to be with the Hammers U16 squad this weekend.

Turkey U17 goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet is also unavailable as he was part of his country's squad for an international friendly against the Netherlands in Otel Antalya on Friday.

However, the likes of left-back Jordan Brown, central midfielders Eoin Wearen and George Moncur and forward Cristian Montano could all feature after impressing for Alex Dyer's reserve team at Aston Villa in midweek.

Saturday's fixture marks the third of West Ham's ten inter-group fixtures. Carr's youngsters, who compete in FA Premier Academy League Group A, will take on ten sides from the three other groups before playing home and away against the nine other Group A teams.

Tottenham, who compete in Group B, went down to a 3-1 home defeat by Manchester United last Saturday, and also lost at Middlesbrough in their opening fixture.

Despite those results, Carr is expecting a difficult match: "We will be without Deniz and Danny, who have been regulars in the side, but their absences opens the door for other players to come in and show what they can do.

"Tottenham have lost their opening two matches, but they were tough matches and they are a good side. Hopefully, we can go there and give a good account of ourselves and, if we create the same number of chances we created in our opening two matches, we will give ourselves a very good chance."

Kick-off at Spurs Lodge, in Luxborough Lane, Chigwell, is at 11am. Admission is free.
