Parkes praise on WHUTV

Check out WHUTV today to see the thoughts of Phil Parkes on a big weekend for Robert Green.

The West Ham United great has been speaking about the England No1's chances of retaining the international shirt ahead of stiff competition from Ben Foster and Paul Robinson. Parkes believed Green, having starting the last three matches, should be the man to face Slovenia in a friendly on Satuday before Wednesday's FIFA World Cup qualifier with Croatia.

Parkes was fulsome in praise for Green's heroics at the Boleyn Ground, arguing that his form in 91 consecutive Premier League outings has more than earned him the right to be considered the nation's top shot-stopper. He said: "Robert has proved he is the best around. He is playing well and has confidence. Most importantly the defence has confidence in him.

"Now he has got he spot it is up to the others to take it away from him. He has to be careful of course and make sure he doesn't do any silly mistakes. Fabio Capello is the kind of manager who will keep him in there if he is playing well, he will sticfk with him."
