Fabio Daprela had a mixed evening as his Switzerland Under-19 side won the four-nation competition in Limoges following a 2-2 draw with France.
With his side trailing 2-1, Daprela was harshly sent off in the 89th minute for what appeared to be violent conduct committed by his team-mate Adriano De Pierro. The Swiss continued to press, though, and a struck a late equaliser through a free-kick from FC Basel's Marco Aratores. The dramatic finale ensured it was they and not their hosts on Sunday who took the title.
Daprela had already played a key part in Switzerland's success. The 18-year-old, who can play at full-back or centre-half, scored a superb goal in their opening 3-1 win against Greece when he dribbled past four defenders before finishing.
The Swiss Under-19s return to action in March with two games against Poland, before the countdown for the European Championship qualifiers starts. They have already secured their place in the Elite round UEFA European U19 Championship qualifying. Seven group winners from the Elite round will then progress to the final tournament, which will be also be held in France, next summer.
