Gabbs to tie the knot

Danny Gabbidon's friendship with West Ham United team-mate James Collins will be put to the test this weekend.

That is because Collins will be best man at Gabbidon's wedding on Saturday afternoon.

The pair have been close since Gabbidon joined his fellow Wales international at Cardiff City in August 2000. After forging a strong partnership at the heart of the Bluebirds' rearguard, the duo joined West Ham in a combined £3m deal in July 2005.

Gabbidon fulfilled the best man role for his fellow central defender last summer, and the groom-to-be admitted to being more nervous about the contents of his old pal's speech than the prospect of tying the knot.

"I'm not nervous at the moment but it's getting close so there's a few butterflies coming," said the 29-year-old, who has recently returned to action after 18 months out with a series of injuries. "I think I will be just before but at the moment I'm pretty cool. I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be a good day.

"James is going to be my best man. I thought I'd get him back because he got married last year and I was his best man. I told him in my speech that I'd get revenge on him the year after so I thought this was a good time to do it.

"My speech was pretty conservative. There are a few things I could have used but I daren't because he would have probably ended up getting divorced before he was even married, so I kept it quite civil! Hopefully he'll do the same for me.

"He has got a couple of different things. My brother is best man as well so I think they've been talking and swapping ideas so I think I might be in for a bit of trouble! Hopefully he won't have too many drinks and it'll all go smoothly."
