Ladies frozen out

2009 started in the same manner as 2008 finished for West Ham United Ladies as their fixture against Brighton Ladies on Sunday was called off due to a frozen pitch.

The postponement means it is now over five weeks since Tony Marshall's side last played a league game, after previous matches were called off due to bad weather and the death of the club chairman.

The Brighton fixture has now been rearranged for this Sunday 11 January, when United will be hoping for some slightly warmer weather in east London.

The team will be raring to get going in 2009. After starting the year in fifth position - with games in hand over the top two teams - they still have big matches against the top three sides as well as fixtures against all of the teams in the bottom five.
