Loanees in action

West Ham United's band of players out on loan continued to help their respective clubs at the weekend.

Kyel Reid played the opening 70 minutes of Wolverhampton Wanderers' 3-1 home win over Watford at Molineux. The 21-year-old winger set up Wolves' opening goal when his corner was flicked on by Richard Stearman for Sylvan Ebanks-Blake to convert. Fellow on-loan Hammer Nigel Quashie was not involved in the match.

Lee Bowyer completed a full 90 minutes as Birmingham City snatched a dramatic late draw at Sheffield Wednesday. The point leaves the Blues third in the table, two points behind second-placed Reading.

In League One goalkeeper Jimmy Walker, who was back at the Boleyn Ground to watch his West Ham United team-mates beat Hull City last week, helped Colchester United extend their unbeaten run to nine matches with a 2-0 victory at Carlisle United. The U's are up to eleventh in the table, seven points outside the play-off places.

England Under-19 international captain Jordan Spence started Leyton Orient's 1-0 home defeat to Yeovil Town at the Matchroom Stadium. The 18-year-old, who is on loan with the O's for the remainder of the season, has now started three League One matches for Kevin Nugent's side, who sit just inside the relegation zone.

In League Two, left-back Joe Widdowson played the whole match as Grimsby Town went down to a 2-0 defeat at Bradford City. The Mariners are just one place above the relegation zone, but are nine points clear of second-bottom AFC Bournemouth.

Elsewhere, Julien Faubert has been unveiled by Real Madrid at a press conference at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. The 25-year-old, who has joined the Spanish club until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move, will wear the No18 shirt and could make his debut in the home match against Racing Santander on Saturday.
