Late goal downs Ladies

West Ham United Ladies 1-2 Millwall Lionesses

West Ham United Ladies suffered their first league defeat of the season on Sunday as they conceded a last-minute goal to go down 2-1 at home to Millwall Lionesses.

Millwall took the lead in the 23rd minute when former Chelsea player Emma Witter ran on to a long ball to lob Paris Smith in the United goal. The home side tried to hit back immediately and had several good chances to eqaulise before half-time.

They continued to press after the break but may have got the feeling it was not to be their day as several more chances came and went. Their pressure eventually told though when Nat Grafton broke free and crossed for Tracey Duxbury and although her shot was saved, Sam Pittuck followed in to get a deserved equaliser in front of a record crowd at Thurrock.

However, there was to be late drama as in the 93rd minute a long free-kick from the visitors was headed away only to be superbly volleyed back into the top corner of the net. Despite the disappointing result, the team are still second in the FA Tesco Women's Premier League South after other results on the day went in their favour.
