Euro dream over for Ljungberg

Freddie Ljungberg's involvement in Euro 2008 is over after Sweden were eliminated from the competition with a 2-0 defeat by Russia.

Goals in each half from Roman Pavlyuchenko and Andrei Arshavin were enough to take Guus Hiddink's side through at the expense of the Scandinavian nation, who had only needed a draw in Innsbruck to progress. Russia were in scintillating form although Sweden had some moments, not least when Ljungberg burst through just before half-time after a slick passing move only to be denied by a fine save. Russia will now play the Netherlands in the last eight on Saturday night while Sweden's campaign is over. Sweden had previously won 2-0 against Greece and lost 2-1 to Group D winners Spain.
