Appeal for help after accident

West Ham United have been asked to appeal for witnesses after a supporter was seriously injured in a road traffic accident while making his way to last Wednesday's Carling Cup tie.

Arthur Baker, an 84-year-old fan, was hurt while on Barking Road at approximately 7.15pm last Wednesday as he headed to the Boleyn Ground to see the quarter-final with Everton. He is being treated in intensive care at the London Hospital.

His nephew Paul Daley said: "I would like to make a request that anyone who may have witnessed the accident contact the local police at their earliest convenience. I would ask that all decent supporters might say a prayer or wish him well in their own way, at this devastating time for his family and friends."

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact East Ham police station on 020 8534 1212 or Plaistow police station on 020 8534 1212.
