Collins proud of defensive display

James Collins was pleased to be part of the defensive line-up which claimed a second successive win and the bonus of a clean sheet against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Hammers defender said: "We were due a clean sheet. We were two-nil up at half-time and just concentrating on going out second-half and not letting any goals in. All the other boys at the back played really well and we worked hard to keep the clean sheet."

After suffering with a troublesome groin injury in the early part of the season, James has recovered well after undergoing surgery.

"It's going really well at the moment," he said. "I've played four games in the last two weeks, my fitness is getting better and I'm happy with my form as well. Getting the win against Middlesbrough was great.

"It was good, everyone defended well. We knew we had to do that after the Tottenham game. Luckily enough we did."

Having won one and lost one while on international duty with Wales, James was happy to record another Premiership victory.

"We were disappointed with the game out in Dublin but we went back home to Wales on the Wednesday and got a good result against San Marino. We won that quite comfortably, everyone was happy. I'm delighted to have come back and won with West Ham as well.

"Everyone is feeling positive with the games we've got left. All we can do is keep performing, keep playing well and picking up wins. We've still got to play a few of the teams around us. Hopefully we can beat them and see where it leads us at the end of the season."
