Ephraim on duty with England under-19s

Young Hammers striker Hogan Ephraim was in action with the England under-19 team on Saturday as they secured a 1-1 draw against Spain in the opening game of a mini-tournament in Austria.

A last-minute own goal from Spanish defender Omar Hernandes rescued a point for England, who had fallen behind to a strike from Adrian Gonzalez early in the second half but deserved their equaliser.

Having gone close on a number of occasions - including one fine strike from Ephraim that flew just wide - Brian Eastick's young side were worthy of their point against the current European champions.

In what is a UEFA preparatory tournament ahead of the European Under-19 Championship finals taking place next summer, also in Austria, England will face the host nation Austria in their second game later today, and then round off the trip with a clash against Italy on Wednesday.

Hogan, who raced off to meet up with the national squad after our reserve match against Arsenal at Upton Park last Tuesday, was on the substitutes' bench for our UEFA Cup first round, second leg tie in Palermo recently, and is hopeful of making his Premiership debut in the near future.
