Peter Grant will be turning back the clock tonight when he
pulls on his boots again to take part in a charity match in front
of the live TV cameras.
West Ham United's Assistant Manager, who made more than 600 senior appearances during a playing career that spanned almost 20 years, will be appearing in Celtic v Liverpool: The Legends, to be televised on Channel Five.
The former Scotland international, who played for Celtic between 1982 and 1997, making more than 450 appearances for the Glasgow giants, will be hoping to prove that he can still produce the midfield steel that made him a crowd favourite at Parkhead.
The proceeds from the game will go to the Celtic Charity Fund, which benefits several charities, including some chosen by the legendary former Hoops winger Jimmy "Jinky" Johnstone, who died earlier this year.
Another charity to benefit from the game will be the Marina Dalglish Appeal, a breast cancer foundation set up by the wife of Kenny Dalglish, who played with distinction for both clubs during his career.
Dalglish and David Hay, the respective managers of Liverpool and Celtic in '86, will once again take up the managerial reins, and the game is set to see a host of legendary figures return to playing duty.
The Liverpool side is tipped to include Ian Rush, Alan Hansen, Jan Molby, Mark Lawrenson, John Barnes, Ray Houghton and Peter Beardsley, while Danny McGrain, Brian McClair, Mark McGhee, Mick McCarthy, Pat Bonner, Andy Walker, Murdo MacLeod and former Hammers favourite Frank McAvennie are set to line up alongside Peter in the Celtic team.
Granty, who was catching a plane up to Glasgow after training at Chadwell Heath today to make it in time for the game, said: "It will be great to meet up with so many old friends, and I'm looking forward to running out in front of a packed Parkhead once again.
"We haven't had much preparation for the match - I've just been told to get to the stadium for 4pm, but as we always used to say: 'If you're good enough, just turn up and play!'
