Hammers finish high in Fair Play tables

Considering the scenes at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, it's perhaps no surprise to find out that West Ham United's players, officials and supporters have been named as some of the fairest and best-behaved in the Premiership.

Hammers have finished joint second with Arsenal in the official Barclaycard Premiership 2005-06 Fair Play table, which is compiled from marks awarded by The FA Premier League Match Delegates.

Alan Pardew's men have collected just 49 yellow cards and only a single red one this season, but it isn't only the collection of red and yellow cards that contributes towards a team's placing in the table. Marks are also awarded on positive play, respect towards opponents, respect towards the referee and the behaviour of club officials.

Charlton Athletic have been crowned Fair Play champions, with an overall average score of 8.58 per game, while Arsenal and Hammers sit joint second with a score of 8.46, closely followed by Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, whose average score reads 8.43.

What's more, we have also finished fourth in the table for Best Behaved supporters. Marks out of 10 are awarded when taking into account the general behaviour of a team's fans, with the claret and blue faithful earning a highly impressive average mark of 8.87 to end the season in third place behind Charlton and Fulham.

Charlton have therefore picked up the prize money of £30,000, awarded to the club finishing the Season at the top of the Fair Play League, plus £20,000 for their supporters being deemed to be the best behaved.
