Teddy Sheringham has seen it all in his long and eventful
playing career, but even he couldn't believe the events that
unfolded at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.
The 40-year-old striker has won Premiership titles, the European Cup, and also the FA Cup, but the memory of our penalty shoot-out defeat after a thrilling 3-3 draw against Liverpool in Cardiff will live just as long.
"Unbelievable," said Teddy afterwards. "We thought we'd won it, but with two minutes to go the ball drops to a world class player, Steven Gerrard, and he produces something amazing.
"He'd already scored one wonder goal and, if the ball falls to any other player, we've won the FA Cup, it's as simple as that.
"We really dug deep in extra-time, but penalties are a devastating way to lose. We were so close, but so far.
"It was a fantastic final, and I'm sure we will look back on it in years to come and say that we were proud to be involved in it, but we lost, so we're just devastated at the moment."
