West Ham United can confirm that we will face League One side Gillingham in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, July 29.
The match is a testimonial for Gillingham's former player
and manager Andy Hessenthaler and will take place at their
Priestfield stadium (kick-off at 3.00pm).
Hessenthaler, who made 360 appearances for the Gills, scoring 28
goals, recently signed a one-year contact extension at Barnet, who
he originally joined in January. He has been a key player in
Gillingham's fortunes since joining from Watford for
£235,000 in August 1996, with the testimonial rewarding him
for his 10 years of service both as a player and player-manager.
Following the club's promotion to what is now the Championship
in 2000 Peter Taylor joined Leicester City and Hessenthaler was
appointed Player-Manager. He led the Gills to their highest ever
finish, 11th in Division One in 2002-03.
Tickets for the match will be on sale in advance - details to be announced here as soon as they are confirmed.
