Pards tips Spector to be a star of the future

Alan Pardew believes that Jonathan Spector will become a big star at Upton Park in the years to come.

After signing the 20-year-old defender in a £500,000 deal from Manchester United, the Hammers boss revealed that he had been a long-time admirer and is tipping the USA international to enjoy a successful future in the claret and blue.

"Jonathan is a player we have been tracking for the past 18 months or so," says Pards. "He has huge potential and we hope that bears fruition here at West Ham United.

"He is definitely one for the future and, with a UEFA Cup campaign to look forward to next season, he will add to our defensive quality. He can play all along the back four and, over the next 12 months, we hope he will secure a first team place here and prove his worth as a Premiership player.

"Having developed as a young player at Manchester United, he arrives with a fantastic pedigree, and I was also very impressed by his character, which was a big factor in bringing him to the Club.

"I am sure he will be a great addition to our squad and, at such a young age, we have signed a player who can go on to have a long and successful career at Upton Park."
