Katan heads back to Haifa on loan

West Ham United can confirm that Yaniv Katan has returned to his previous club Maccabi Haifa on a season-long loan deal, with a view to a permanent transfer.

The Israeli international arrived at Upton Park in January but has seen his first-team chances limited by the form of fellow strikers Dean Ashton, Marlon Harewood, Teddy Sheringham and Bobby Zamora.

He made his debut in our FA Cup third round win at Norwich City and went on to make two Premiership starts, against Portsmouth at home and Middlesbrough away, plus four substitute appearances.

Yaniv's wife has also struggled to adjust to life in London and has expressed a desire to return home, and so the Club have agreed to sanction his switch back to Israel.

We would like to wish Yaniv all the best for his future career back at Maccabi Haifa.
