Anton nominated for PFA young player award

Anton Ferdinand has been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

The Hammers defender has been recognised for his superb progress and consistent performances since our return to the Premiership last year, and will hoping to become only the third West Ham United player to win the award, after Mervyn Day in 1975 and Tony Cottee in 1986.

The other nominees for the PFA's Young Player of the Year award are Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney of Manchester United, Darren Bent of Charlton, Cesc Fabregas of Arsenal and Aaron Lennon of Tottenham Hotspur.

PFA Chief Executive Gordon Taylor says: "I'm really impressed with the way Anton has adapted to life in The Premiership, just as West Ham have done as a club. I'm glad he's reflecting West Ham's success because he deserves that...and he's certainly going some way towards reaching the heights of his older brother."

The winner of the award will be announced at the PFA's annual Gala Dinner, taking place at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Sunday, April 23.
